Mr. Jose Diaz - Deployed
Jose Diaz has been the director at San Diego High for the past 4 years. Mr. Diaz has taught music within SDUSD for almost a decade and has 15 years of teaching experience. Mr. Diaz earned his Bachelor of Music Ed. and MMed. from the University of Southern California. While at USC Mr. Diaz studied Trumpet under Roy Poper (Oberlin College) a student of James Stamp. In addition to his educational duties Mr. Diaz has served over 8 years as a member of the California National and currently serves as a Lieutenant within the 1-143rd FA Battalion.
Mr. Diaz will be deployed overseas at the end of September and will return for the 2018-2019 school year.
Mrs. Kayla Rodgers - Advanced Band, Advanced Orchestra, Choirs, AP Music Theory, IB Music
Kayla Rodgers returns San Diego High School Music staff as the Instrumental and Choral Director. Mrs. Rodgers earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado (Greeley, Colorado) where she had the opportunity to study under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Mayne and Dr. Kenneth Singleton. While at UNCO, Mrs. Rodgers also had the opportunity to study percussion under the guidance of Gray Barrier. She studied clarinet under the guidance of Paul Dods.
Mrs. Rodgers’ duties at San Diego include advanced band, orchestra and choir, beginning choir, AP music Theory, and IB music.
Mrs. Rodgers' professional affiliations include the California Music Educators Association, the Colorado Music Educators Association, the Percussive Arts Society, and the American Orff Schulwerk Association. She currently resides in Vista, California with her husband, daughter, two cats and can be seen performing with the Pomerado Community Band under the direction of Dean Hickman.
